UIRecast is a browser extension that lets a user explicitly select one rendered webpage element and reconstruct it as reusable frontend code.
Data handled by the extension
When the user chooses Start selecting and clicks an element, UIRecast temporarily reads the selected element and its retained descendants. This may include:
- visible text;
- safe HTML attributes;
- element dimensions;
- computed visual styles; and
- references to page assets contained in the selected markup.
This information is considered website content. UIRecast handles it only to provide the user-requested capture, preview, code generation, and export features.
Local processing and retention
All selected website content is processed locally in the user's browser.
UIRecast:
- does not send selected website content to the developer or any external server;
- does not use analytics, advertising trackers, or telemetry;
- does not create user accounts;
- does not store captures or browsing history;
- does not sell, rent, or share user data; and
- does not use selected content to train machine-learning models.
Generated files are downloaded only when the user requests a download. Those files remain under the user's control in the browser's normal download location.
Chrome permissions
UIRecast uses the following permissions:
-
activeTab— temporary access to the tab where the user invokes the extension. -
scripting— injects the element selector only after the user's explicit action. -
sidePanel— displays the extension interface beside the selected webpage.
The extension does not request persistent host access, does not install an always-running content script, and does not request browsing-history or storage permissions.
Security and external resources
Captured content is sanitized locally. Active scripts, inline event handlers, embedded frames, form values, unsafe URLs, tracking attributes, and extension-owned interface elements are excluded from generated output. The isolated preview blocks scripts, forms, external navigation, and network requests.
Asset references may remain as text in generated code when they are part of the selected element. UIRecast does not fetch those assets during its isolated preview.
Limited Use
UIRecast's use of information obtained through Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide or improve the extension's disclosed, user-facing purpose.
Changes to this policy
If UIRecast's data practices change, this policy and the Chrome Web Store disclosures will be updated before the changed practices are introduced.
